CCA statement on the extension of FCC auction authority

President & CEO Tim Donovan: “I thank the House for passing legislation late yesterday to extend the FCC’s auction authority until May 19, taking a step to ensure that auction authority will not expire. In the coming weeks, work remains to advance a longer timeframe for auction authority that furthers work on bands that can be reallocated for continually growing wireless use and provides additional funding to address the shortfall for the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Reimbursement Program. “Rip and replace” remains a key bipartisan priority for national security, and carriers who have worked diligently to replace untrusted telecommunications network equipment must have the certainty of full funding as soon as possible. Today’s action is welcome, and I urge Congress to continue work to advance spectrum policy to meet our wireless needs and fully fund rip and replace to advance national security and protect consumers.”
